I did try to find if The Irish Times had published this open letter from Anthony Coughlan to its editor, as published below, so as to provide a URL/address however have failed so far!

I was however amused to note that the banner of The Irish Times online spent much, if not all, of Monday pm and well after I had tipped off the paper on 00-353 1 675 8000 that it seemed to be into the field rather of predictions and crystal ball gazing rather than reporting the news because for some strange they seemed to think, well actually headed their banner, Wednesday, 30 September 2009.

I was unable to find any useful racing results nor apposite lottery numbers which was unfortunate. Nor were they any more accurate in their repoting of EU matters so one must assume neither Anthony Coughlan's letter nor tha passage of time have given them pause for thought nor better judgement!

Dear Geraldine,
May I appeal to you to be fairer and more objective in your treatment of the Lisbon Treaty referendum in the Irish Times.

I write as someone who was responsible, along with my friend the late Raymond Crotty, for the 1987 Crotty case on the Single European Act, from which the current referendum stems.

It is quite something, is it not, that Ireland is the only country in Europe in which a referendum is being permitted on this proposal to make some 500 million Europeans into real citizens of the legally new Federal-type European Union which the "Lisbon Constitution" would establish?

Some recent articles and comments which the Irish Times has carried quite drip with hostility and contempt towards the No-side advocates, even though they are only seeking to uphold the majority judgement that was given by Irish voters last year on exactly the same Treaty as is being presented to them again in the 2 October referendum re-run.

The balance of feature articles and comment in the paper is easily three or four times in favour of the Yes side. You show little attempt to examine what is actually in the Treaty. Your coverage is more often a case of attacking the messenger than the message.

Your distinguished predecessor, the late Douglas Gageby, whom I got to know when he was in charge of covering the debate on Ireland's accession to the EEC in 1973, would never have permitted such imbalance.

May I put to you five points, which I suggest should determine any informed and rational person's vote on the Lisbon Treaty, and appeal to you to ensure that Irish Times readers are made aware of them during the coming weeks?

Firstly, are people happy to be made real rather than symbolic citizens of a post-Lisbon Federal European Union which would for the first time be constitutionally separate from and superior to its Member States, with the new EU's Constitution having primacy over the Irish Constitution?


One can only be a citizen of a State and all States must have citizens. We would still keep our Irish citizenship under Lisbon, but in the post-Lisbon EU our rights and duties as Irish citizens would be subordinate to our rights and duties as EU citizens in any cases of conflict between the two, with all the implications of that.

Secondly, how can it be in Ireland's interest that European law-making in the post-Lisbon Union should be made primarily on the basis of population size, just as in any State, such that Germany's vote in making EU laws would increase to 17% of the total votes compared to 8% at present, the voting weight of France, Britain and Italy would go from their current 8% to 12% each, and Ireland's vote would fall from 2% to 0.8%?


Making European directives and regulations at present requires a qualified majority of weighted votes on the EU Council of Ministers plus a simple majority of Member States. When Ireland joined the then EEC in 1973 France, Germany, Britain and Italy had 10 votes each and we had 3 - a ratio of 3 to 1. Today the Big States have 29 votes each and Ireland has 7 - a ratio of 4 to 1.


How can it be in our interest to vote for a Treaty which would give Germany 20 times Ireland's vote and France, Britain and Italy 15 times each? How can former Taoseach Bertie Ahern and his Foreign MInister Brian Cowen have agreed to such an obvious bad deal when they signed up to the EU Constitution in 2004?

Thirdly, how can it be in Ireland's interest that the Irish Government should lose the right to decide who would represent us on the EU Commission, the body which has the monopoly of proposing all EU laws? Under Lisbon our present right to "propose" the Irish nominee would be replaced by a right to make "suggestions" only, for the incoming Commission President to decide, who in turn would be appointed by Merkel, Sarkozy and Brown - so replacing a bottom-up process of appointment by a top-down one.


This quite vitiates the value of the promise that each State can keep its national Commissioner under Lisbon. Most people do not know about this change which the Lisbon Treaty would make. The Government White Paper does not even mention it, nor do the Yes-side advocates, despite their supposed zeal for the truth about the Treaty.


Fourthly, Lisbon would abolish the national veto which we have at present in over 30 new policy areas by handing over to the EU the power to make laws binding on us with regard to public services, policing, crime, justice, the harmonisation of legal procedures, immigration, transport, tourism, sport, culture, public health etc.


Each of these areas will have major implications for some Irish people. Could the Irish Times not set out in a non-contentious manner what exactly is being proposed for each such area?


Fifthly, it will not be the end of the world if Irish voters reject Lisbon again. If we vote No, the Czech Republic and Poland will not ratify the Treaty. It may be that Germany itself will not have ratified it by the time we vote. And by next May there will be a new Government in Britain which will be pledged to withdraw the UK's ratification of Lisbon on its first day in office, put the Treaty to a referendum and recommend a No vote to it - as long we do not clamp this undemocratic Constitution on the whole of the EU first.


In this way our fellow- countrymen and women north of the Border would have the chance to vote on it. Our membership of the eurozone and the State's ability to borrow money would be unaffected.

The great advantage of such a second No is that it would open the way to a fundamental look at where the European Union is going, returning to the 2003 Laeken Declaration, which envisaged a more democratic, transparent and accountable Union, with some powers being repatriated from Brussels to the Member States, before the subsequent Convention was hijacked by the Euro-Federalists who foisted on us the "Lisbon Constitution".

I recognise of course that you, quite rightly, have an editorial view on Lisbon, but I put in a plea for a more balanced and objective approach in your general coverage in the paper.

Below for your information is a summary of the main reasons why people should be concerned about this Treaty. They have been drawn up with the assistance of authorities in Irish and European law. If any inaccuracy can be shown, I should be happy to withdraw it.

Having followed the progress of Declan Ganley from the start of his personal ambitions in politics, whilst raising his profile in the Democratic Irish Referendul on The New Constitution now represented in a typically EU Undemocratic and arrogant manner as The Lisbon Treaty as all but the very dumb or very dishonest know is the same document as was rejected by both France and The Netherlands.

Ganley's fleeting visit to politics in Ireland in The NO Campaign last year was a welcome addition, as was that of anyone who helped to get the truth out and a resounding NO result. However the result went to Ganley's head it seems and whilst claiming all the glory when as something of a 'Watford Come Lately' his efforts were welcome but had little significance in the common sense of ensuring that Ireland, with its values principles and peoples, survived in liberty and dignity with a NO vote.

Even more intriguing was BBC Radio 4 The Westminster Hour on Sunday last (30-Aug-2009), when with a mere 27 campaigning days left I was pleased to hear that Nigel Farage had spent 'the whole summer' in Ireland 'Campaigning for a NO vote'.

Minded that I had heard nothing of this impressive efforts I took the liberty of searching EUkip's web site, where his own press office and sychophants had made absolutely no mention of his stirling efforts.

I then started out hunting on other EUkip blogs that support their having alied with racists, xenophobes and the sexually intollerant in The EU and having gone 'native' I started with 'bloggers4ukip' after a dozen or so with still no mention I searched all The Irish papers and a number of the Irish blogs with absoluitely no feedback - Google was similarly unresponsive!

Aware that Farage must be praised for what little he actually does and as a long term supporter of UKIP until it opted to go native, betray the British peoples and befoul its own nest - I finally gave up and phoned Anthony Coughlan, whom I have known for many years, he was out but a pleasant young lady in his office assured me that there had been no sighting of Farage in Ireland all through the summer!

She was kind enough and certain enough that she was happy that I could quote her comment and assured me she knew Farage and was certain, had he been in Ireland campaigning in any manner she would have been well aware.

After the debacle of Ganley which cost the seat of Kathy Sinnott MEP a stalwart of the NO Campaign to absolutely no gain as Ganley's Libertas Party merely split the vote of Irish patriots, as with patriotic parties in other EU vassal states - such that some even questioned if he was actually working for the EU in return for some profitable telecom contract!

Now it does look as if Nigel Farage has lied on air but I assure you it would not be a first as he lies on a serial basis when he feels it may profit him personally!

One of the great dangers of The EU is that small men with big pockets are easily bought and The EU has no shortage of access to OUR money to fund OUR enemies! Nor does The EU show the faintest glimmer of ethics or morality in its hedonistic pursuit of its Globalist aims and self enrichment for its chosen few AT OUR EXPENSE!

That Ireland is being forced to have a second referendum shows beyond all doubt that The EU has little or no respect for democracy and self determination and absolutely no interest in the views or wishes of its 400,000,000 serfs in 27 vassal states!

What better reason could one find for a NO vote!

However he is so enthusiastic to see how much it helps HIM he is actively campaigning for a yes vote - he obviously wants Ireland to lose its liberty, lose its traditions, lose its Sovereignty, lose its independence, lose its Irish Judiciary and be ruled by diktat centrally administered by the undemocratic central EU committee in Brusells.

Is it that he hates Ireland or is it that he has heard just how huge the bribes are and howmany €Billions get spiritted away in The EU where for the 14th. consecutive year they have failed to produce balanced books and account for where our money vanishes.

If the Commissioners of The EU were Company Directors and they produced such inadequate books for their company - The Irish Government would put them in prison for Money Laundering!

The only other reason this man could be campaigning for a yes vote is that he hates Ireland and is very thick and has believed the threats that the EU would deliberately damage Ireland if it votes NO.

Just look at the massive damage done to Ireland by membership of The EU already!!

THE CHURCH of IRELAND SEEMINGLY FAILS TO UNDERSTAND THE NATURE of THE BEAST!!!

I received a press release from The Church of Ireland which is almost frightenning in its naiivity or so I would hope as alternatively it is partisan and thus mallign.

The EU is clearly anti democratic as shown by the simple fact that when they obtain the vote of the peoples that does not suit them, as in France, Holland and now Ireland they utterly ignore it, tend to abuse and dissemble about the result with such claims, despite the €Billions they spend on propaganda that the vote against them was obtained unfairly!

When the 120,000 regulations of The Acquis Communitaire are available in the primary languages of the 27 vassal states where as long ago as 2006 The Independent proclaimed that the The EU spent in excess of €1 Billion on translation in the Tower of Babel keeping everyone babelling slightly different meanings of every document!

Have not the Church of Ireland noted the symbolism of the EU?

It is clearly declared it obtained its imagery for its barbed wire circle of enslaving stars for its banner as a plagiarism from early Catholic art.

A concept and style of laudation that seemingly continues:

One wonders if it is the same sun god for whom the hallo was originally set to appease! - leaving the moon and a single star to the god of the underworld and Satanic forces - strangely seized upon by Islam as a symbol to top its mosques!

How can The Church of Ireland lay claim to surprise, that The EU Commission has entered into the fray to attack the Farmers? Those very farmers may well stand between the Commission and its snouts in the troughs on the gravy train that is the EU, where the wheels are well oiled with bribes and largesse purloined from the public purse (stolen from the tax payers).

Of course The EU will corrupt the Irish Referendum - it is corrupt in the first instance to force Ireland to vote again, because the result did not suit the greed, avarice and incomes of the political elite and their burgeonning army of salaried praise singers and bureaucrats administering the hand out of the bribes amongst their cronies!

Politics of today is easily as corrupt as much of religiosity and the ambitions of churches in their ongoing squabbles over the souls of the dead.

You will well recal the fact that it was Cardinal Ratzzinger who obtained personal immunity from prosecution in America from the Skull & Bones member and President of America George W. Bush having been personally involved in the inquiries and cover-ups of the priests of the catholic church who had been sequentially buggering large numbers of their younger congregations.

The fictional tales of 'Maria Monk' seem more than plausible in the light of fact!

The following is a statement by the Church of Ireland Gazette editor, Canon Ian Ellis, on the Lisbon Treaty referendum debate.

I hope that there will be a 'clean' debate on the Lisbon Treaty in the run-up to the 2nd October referendum. Both sides must avoid character attacks and unjustified accusations of lying. If either side makes an incorrect statement, that is not necessarily a lie. Lies are deliberate and deceptive statements made in the full knowledge that they are wrong.


The Churches have a role in this debate in terms of encouraging people to participate, to engage in 'fair play' and, on 2nd October, to exercise their democratic right to vote. There are serious arguments on both sides of the Lisbon discussion and everyone has the right to be heard and respected. However, the Churches themselves, as institutions, should remain neutral.

The fact that the people are being asked to vote again on the treaty indicates the seriousness of the situation. On the other hand, it is not fair to suggest that the Lisbon vote is about being at the heart of Europe or about being good Europeans. That kind of moral blackmail is not 'fair play'. The referendum is only about the Lisbon Treaty and its provisions for the EU. Is this how the EU should be? That is the question for voters and they should feel entirely free to express their wishes.

I was surprised that the European Commission entered the Irish debate on Saturday, commenting on the Farmers For No group's understanding of the treaty. Challenges made to whatever groups in the referendum run-up should be made by the Irish parties involved and should not eminate from the European institutions. Inevitably, there will be differences over the interpretation of the treaty, but it is not for the EU itself, or any of its institutions, to enter into what must now be an Irish discussion. Because the debate is about the nature of the EU, the EU must 'leave the room'.

I would however suggest you save yourself the bother and go dire ctly for the truth, which seemingly is being kept from the peoples of Ireland - either in the patronising manner of Irish politicians in the belief the people are far too stupid to understand OR in a wish not to let them know the full extent of the control over every aspect of life in Ireland!

'Don't scare the horses' seems to be the mantra of the burgeoning political class and the snivil cervants and bureaucrats who fear the horse may bolt before they can lock bar and bolt the door by duping them into signing the New Constitution Lisbon Treaty.

To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether, as the United Kingdom’s net contribution to the European Community budget is projected to rise from £2 billion in 2008-09 to £6.5 billion in 2010-11, they will withhold a proportion pending a statement of assurance on the accounts by the Court of Auditors.

Lord Davies of Oldham:

My Lords, the answer is no. The United Kingdom is required to make its contributions under obligations imposed by the treaties.

The European Communities Act, and Section 2 in particular, gives effect within the UK to Community law.

Inability to gain clearance on the majority of EU expenditure is unacceptable, and the Government will continue to engage with European institutions over these issues and to look for member states taking greater responsibility for the EU funds that they manage.

Few seem to realise that Westminster no longer has ANY authority to do anything beyond 'footle' and make matters worse.

Under the terms of the ECA 1972 these United Kingdoms no longer have the democratic right to enact independent law under the terms of Article 2 Section II where it clearly states that it shall be the duty of the minister concerned to enact into law EU Laws, either by 'Statutory Instrument' or by 'Order In Council'.

Thus we now find that somewhere in excess of 75% of all Statute Law enacted in Parliament is mere rubber stamping of the EU's undemocratic diktat. Interestingly you will note The ECA also states that ALL British Law must be compliant with the EU - THUS all British Law is forced upon us by The EU undemocratically!

This no doubt explains why MPs take ever longer holidays and more law is made in the absence of democratic debate by our elected politicians than through the sitting of parliament.

We hear much of MPs and their allowances, expenses and salaries being inadequate - as members of the EU in a vassal state perhaps it is about time to admit we live in a post democratic centralised committee dictatorship governed in self interest by an alien committee of foreigners and stop paying either our MPs or MEPs as they have absolutely no say, no authority and no job.

As with any Country that has the misfortune to be a vassal state of The EU.

Having read that may I suggest, so that you realise that The EU is clearly NOT a Union but a vehicle for the Franco Germanic Axis Powers, do read 'The Treaty of Elysee' which you can find if you CLICK HERE

The final turn of the key locking us in as the serfs of the vassal state of Britain with its idiotic EU Regional Assemblies, structured without say and without authority to replace Westminster, or in Ireland its Houses of the Oireachtas, comes The New Constitution Lisbon Treaty.

After that you will appreciate that the central authorities of the EU will be authorised to excercise Military authority in and over any vassal state that has the temerity not to carry out the orders of the central committee and its unelected bureaucratic underlings!

Having read this entire 123 page document I was amased that the participants and authors felt it was appropriate to be so patronising of the peoples of Ireland when it was abundantly clear from the Chairman's introduction onwards that their knowledge and understanding of The EU its history, its structure and its aims was so stultifyingly limited!

That the entire document is worded in patronising terms that the ,s>New Constitution Lisbon Treaty WILL be enacted and that it was only because of the duplicity of some telling the truth that their aims at self enrichment and self aggrandisement were thwarted.

I found the entire document embarrassing to read in its presumptive nature when it was clearly drawn up with little or no understanding of the nature of the EU and quite clearly a very limited understanding of the tennets of democracy!

There was even the schoolboy howler of failing to differentiate between the EU and Europe and it was clear that the benefits as presented were all displayed from the perspective of those 'trousering' the EU money duplicitously acquired from the tax payers and both profligately and dishonestly squandered to suit the self styled political elite!

It was quite clear that the authors believed it was unfair that the NO campaign had been able to marshall honest and clear shortcomings of membership when there are very clearly only limited benefits when considered in the light of both monetary costs and also loss of freedom, independence, national status and sovereignty and the unique values of the Irish peoples.

To have knowledge of the subject was seen to be in some way 'unfair' or so the authors led me to believe - an astonishing proposition especially in the hands of those who would presume both to lead and to represent the best interests of Ireland and its peoples in the long term - but one must admit the 'largesse' handed out to its supporters in return for the betrayal of one's Country and one's peoples by The EU central committees is quite staggering - especially when one considers a mere EU salesman in the form of an MEP can expect to 'trouser' in excess of €1,500,000 clear in a single term of office!

much as I may personally deprecate the dishonesty and corruption of the green movement with its lies and dishonesty about anthropogenic global warming and climate change and their hectoring and bullying based on proven unsound science I do commend Patricia McKenna for her efforts in 1995 in defending the peoples of Ireland against the mallign forces of the EU by forcing the upholding of The Irish Constitution.

To be better informed than ones enemies is not just satisfying but can bring the mighty and the corrupt to their knees as they feather their nests at the cost of the peoples!


Over the years in fact Patricia McKenna is probably best-known for her service to the peoples of Ireland for her victory over the Irish Government in the Irish Supreme Court in 1995.

She went to the High Court and subsequently to the Supreme Court to challenge the Government of the day for its unconstitutional use of taxpayers’ money for propaganda purposes in unlawfully and unconstitutionally corrupting referendum campaigns.

The Supreme Court ruled that the Irish Government was not permitted to use public funds for its own perceived benefit to promote their chosen outcome in referenda.

As a result of the Supreme Court ruling, which was very unpopular with the Irish political establishment, the Referendum Commission was set up with the approval of all parties in the Oireachtas.


Considering the involvement of both The Irish Government and The EU, both funded by tax payers in corrupting the Referendum Campaign clearly if the outcome is other than NO it is clearly invalid becaise the Oireachtas has clearly betrayed the peoples of Ireland and abrogated upon their Constitutional duty as shown by The Supreme Court in 'The McKenna Judgement' as handed down by The Justices on The Bench sitting with Chief Justice Hamilton presiding!

This caused massive bubbles in housing, stocks, commodities and derivatives, in the certain knowledge they would all burst, with devastating results for ordinary people.

We could recover, if the government didn’t now spend €13 billion a year on over 1,000 EU QUANGO bureaucracies in Ireland, and €11 billion implementing some of its 120,000 regulations here, two millstones around our necks that the EU will not allow the Minister of Finance to even mention, let alone abolish.

Millstones which hide the true extent of unemployment and economic productivity costing each tax payer in loss of goods and services from their now toothless sham government.

The EU is designed to bring Ireland poverty and oppression, by centralising wealth and control and corruptly administering bribes from the centre.

EU dictatorship and poverty, or freedom and prosperity?

There are 195 nations (including the USA) outside the EU, and Ireland is the 22nd richest.

If Ireland votes "NO" against The New Constitution Lisbon treaty again, the collaborators in the Dail will become cut off from the EU, the source of their power and their gravy trains.

Ireland can then throw out the EU with its huge costs, 120,000 strangling regulation, its unproductive bureaucracy and its corruption, and escape its dictatorship and the police state.

Food will soon be the most valuable commodity in this recession which despite the false promises of self serving politicians will continue for many years yet. A relatively wealthy country like Britain is likely, if all goes well, to take between 10 & 20 years to clear the debts that Gordon Brown and Blair before him have incurred in their irresponsible economic incompetence!

Ireland can in fact grow double the food they need, and once again export half their economy with a ready market in Britain which, due to EU regulations, can no longer feed itself and due to their government's economic illiteracy and incompetence are on the verge of not being able to buy in food!

Outside the EU, the Celtic Tiger can once again prosper.

Brussels Commission involves itself in Irish Lisbon referendum re-run:


Below for your information is the rebuff delivered yesterday by the European Commission on its Dublin web-site to the recently launched "Farmers for a No Vote" group in Ireland.


Whatever about the statements by the new farmers' group which the Commission criticises, the issue here is that the Brussels Commission is behaving as a political party and engaging directly in the Irish referendum campaign!


The Commission is using EU taxpayers' money, partly financed by Irish taxpayers, through the medium of its web-site to help support the Yes campaign in Ireland.


The excerpts from its web-site given below are clear proof of this.


The Commission is acting quite "ultra vires" here. It has absolutely no legal function in relation to the ratification of new European Treaties. It only acquires functions in relation to these Treaties once thay have been ratified and become part of European law. That is not - or at least not yet - the position with the Lisbon Treaty.


At the same time, the Commission is a highly self-interested party in relation to Lisbon. If ratified, Lisbon would give the Commission major new powers, including the monopoly of proposing EU laws in the 30 or so new policy areas that the Treaty would transfer from the EU Member States to the supranational EU institutions.


A civil service is not suppposed to engage in political activity. This is a direct confrontation by the Commission with the Irish Farmers for a No Vote, a campaigning body in Ireland's referendum re-run


The Commission's use of its web-site in this fashion is an interference with Ireland's referendum process and the right of Ireland to ratify or not ratify Lisbon "in accordance with its own constitutional requirements " and without interference from outside bodies such as this.


Mr Martin Territt and his fellow officers in the Commission Office in Molesworth Street, Dublin, should be restrained from this abuse by their superiors in Brussels.


The Commission as guardian of the existing Treaties, but not yet the guardian of the Lisbon Treaty - for it has not been ratified - has a legal duty under European law to respect the ratification rules set down by Irish electoral law and the Irish Supreme Court. It has the duty also to abide by EU law relating to the ratification of Treaties.


The Commission's 1.5 million "information campaign" in Ireland:


Apart from this latest direct involvement in an Irish referendum controversy, the Commission is currently spending some ¤1.5 million euros on a campaign of information in Ireland, ostensibly aimed at giving Irish people more information on the EU, but in fact seeking to influence their vote in the Lisbon referendum re-run on Friday 2 October.


It is doing this by means of massive bill-board advertising all across Ireland, cinema advertising that is directed especially at Irish women and young voters, the holding of meetings and seminars and the use of web-sites. This "information campaign", which is currently in full swing, is to go on into 2010, but its launch in Ireland in recent weeks is clearly geared to influencing the outcome of the Lisbon referendum in six weeks time.


Never before has the European Commission interfered so blatantly in an Irish referendum in an attempt to influence the result, and it looks as if this interference is only just beginning.


Legal mistakes by the Commission:


As regards points on the Commission's web-site below in response to the Farmers for a No Vote statement, the Commission is factually incorrect in what it says or implies about how Ireland's voting weight in making EU laws would be affected by the Lisbon Treaty.


The Commission, like Irish Foreign Minister Micheal Martin writing in last Wednesday's Irish Independent, seems to be under the mistaken impression that a "double majority" of number of Member States + a qualified majority of votes does not exist already for making EC/EU laws, when of course it does.


The statement that a double majority of Member States + Population size is new aims to disguise the big diminution of Ireland's voting weight in making EU laws which would occur with the Lisbon Treaty. For Lisbon would put EU law-making on a primarily population-size basis, just as in any unitary or federal State.


This would have the effect of greatly advantaging the four Big Member States at the expense of smaller EU States such as Ireland.


The Commission is also incorrect in suggesting that human rights matters such as inheritance rights would or could not be affected in a post-Lisbon European Union.


Once 500 million Europeans are made into real rather than just symbolical citizens of the constitutionally new European Union which Lisbon would establish, with their rights as set out in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights being made legally binding for EU citizens, ALL human rights issues would in principle come within the purview of the EU Court of Justice in the years and decades to come - for EU citizens.


If Lisbon is ratified, it is therefore perfectly conceivable that in some future court case on human rights issues the ECJ would be asked to lay down what are EU citizens' rights to inheritance, on the basis that such rights should be uniform for the 500 million EU citizens across the Union.


In these circumstances any lawyer worth his salt will be able to contend that, for example, the right to equality for EU citizens should be reflected in uniform fashion in inheritance and property laws across the post-Lisbon EU.


And if the EU Court of Justice should agree in some future court case, this could well impinge radically on different national laws and practice in this area.


The point is that the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty would give the 27 judges of the EU Court of Justice the power to decide such sensitive matters for the first time, as a consequence of the establishment of a real EU citizenship, entailing EU citizens' rights and duties vis-a-vis the constitutionally new post-Lisbon Union.

Statement by the European Commission on Ireland's "Farmers for a No Vote", issued on 21 August 2009


The statements of the Irish farm lobby group (Farmers for No) on the Lisbon Treaty and on EU policies, quoted in today's press, are factually incorrect and misleading. They represent a totally distorted picture of the reality.


The European Commission wishes make the following points.

* Claims that succession rights will be affected by EU proposals

There is no threat from the EU to farm succession rights. This is a matter that will continue to be governed by national rules and traditions. The issue of succession rights are not a European competence.

* Continued need for unanimous approval by EU Member States

The Lisbon Treaty brings no change. Trade agreements such as the Doha round of world trade talks will still need unanimous approval by EU Member States.

* Ireland's voting weight in the Council remains as strong as ever

This claim about a decrease in voting strength is untrue and shows a misunderstanding of the changes of the voting procedure in the Council of ministers under Lisbon. The new 'double voting' system is more logical and places countries like Ireland on a fairer footing with the larger Member States. It does not reduce Irish influence, but it makes qualified majority voting more transparent, as it is based on two clear elements: a 65% majority of the EU's population and a 55% majority of EU Member states. The second part of the new voting mechanism is one country, one vote, and giving Ireland one vote out of 27.

* On Turkish membership of the European Union

The Lisbon Treaty does not promote Turkey's application for EU membership in any way. The accession of any new country to the EU will continue to be subject to the approval by all Member State of the European Union, as it is the case today.

* On the drive to reduce bureaucracy with respect to farming

Thanks to recent reforms, the Common Agricultural Policy has become simpler and this is continuing. The goal to reduce the administrative burden in agriculture by 25% by 2012 is in on course.

Interestingly it seems that the people of Ireland just do not understand just howmuch and how mallign is the control of the EU of its vassal states.

Consider the size in terms of population, area and GDP of Ireland relative to that of Britain.

Then realise that for Britain the imposition of the New Constitution Lisbon Treaty whether by vote, all be it induced bullied and propagandised, or by steady implimentation by salami slicing as is happening now without democratic consideration - under the terms of The EU as it stands now and it will become more controlling Britain has little or no say in terms of legislation, taxation or management of its peoples.

Astonishingly in excess of 75% of all law enacted by the rump parliament at Westminster is merely rubber stamping of EU diktat and of course by law ALL other law MUST comply with EU law.

Thus in real terms 100% of all British law is a matter of EU control for which a large tranche of British tax payers' money is used in bribes for British politicians and snivil cervants willing to betray Britain and our peoples.

Astonishing as this may all seem to most people having received a diet of subsidised propaganda from the EU - The BBC currently is dependent on £141Million of soft loans and direct grant aid from the EU the condition of which is support of the EU.

Do view The EUropean Communities Act Section 2 Part II if you wish to check for yourself and you will find it states that it is 'the duty and responsibility of the minister concerned to enact into law, laws compliant with The EU either by Statutory Instrument or Order In Council' - perhaps you will now realise why British politicians are receiving endlessly longer holidays from the tedium of filling in expenses claims at Westminster and sampling the wines, restaurants and researchers!

During the summer recess of Parliament more law is enacted than at all times during the year when parliament sits as clerks and QUANGO parasites, advisers and others betraying Britain enact law for The EU.
