BETRAYAL, DUPLICITY, BULLYING, LIES & LEGALITY?!!
Hi,
I'm no lawyer but perhaps, just perhaps some lateral thinking might help Ireland in this its hour of grief at the loss of its freedom.
Under Common Law or Natural Law, from which British Law or if you rather English law is derived and pertains across a great deal of the Anglosphere and presumably Ireland as well since Ireland did not enjoin Roman Dutch, nor Justinan code, nor Code Napoleon there just might be a hope!
British Law states (effectively):
Should one party mislead another to obtain their acquiescence, acceptance or compliance with a contract, agreement or treaty said treaty, agreement or contaract shall be considered null and void.
In that the people of Ireland were on numerous counts lied to and fear of consequences based on lies was used by authority figures to mislead the electorate to return an unsubstantiated yes vote based upon false premisese.
Is the yes vote legally valid on this count?
Without lies, fear and bullying the yes vote would not have been obtained.
In that Ireland was Ordered, howsoere it acquiesced, by a force of 400,000,000 people to rerun a legitimate democratic vote that returned a NO majority - can the subsequent vote be considered valid as it was indisputably obtained under duress.
Is there a true patriot with Ireland's best interests at heart with deep enough pockets to take on the vested interests of the clearly corrupt government through what are most probably subourned and subservient Courts.
Well since eventually most men of honour are prepared to fight and die to obtain freedom; perhaps exploring every other avenue first to liberate Ireland from vassal status of so mallign a body as The EU has clearly been proven to be would be wise!

Dick ROCHE DEEPLY DISHONEST, BULLYING, HECTORING & MISSLEADING!!
Irish minister attacks UKIP over bullied jibe
Last Updated Oct 2009
BRITAIN’S UK Independence Party (UKIP) has come under fire after it suggested Irish electors had been bullied into voting Yes to the Lisbon Treaty on reform of the European Union.
When one is a Minister controlling a huge budget for advertising one has something of an advantage in the meeeeja!
Thayt Farage's comment is indisputable is clear. Yet again Dick Roche deliberately sets out to mislead the Irish people. Farage was in Ireland NOT as a UKIP member but as the leader of a racist, xenophobic, sexually intollerant pan EU political
Ireland’s European Affairs Minister Dick Roche lambasted UKIP after it suggested the referendum had not been free and fair and compared it to corrupt elections in Zimbabwe.
Dick Roche can dissemble and posture but what part of these facts does he not quite understand?
For the Politicians to have rolled over and obeyed the ORDERS of their masters in Brussels without defending Irish Democracy and then spend a large tranche of money stolen from the public purse dishonestly duping the people for their own gain is EXACTLY what has happened in Zimbabwe.
The comments after the Irish Yes vote on Lisbon caused a storm of controversy on both sides of the Irish Sea.
Largely between the patriotic NO vote and the sell out to foreign rule. The so called storm on the British side has been little more than a breeze though there has been sadness that Ireland has been so betrayed, as it also means our position in Britain is marginally closer to economic collapse, potential famine and direct dictatorship - prior to the violent collapse of the EU which is one ratchet step closer.
UKIP’s Nigel Farage provoked the controversy when he said: “What we’ve seen is a decisive victory for the bully boys, the big money men and the bureaucrats.
Often in history statements of fact have sparked controversy - Dick Roche clearly has no understanding of democracy and debate and believes that by telling lies and bullying, abuse of his authority and aggression he is showing his competence as a politician - as commander of a war canoe in the 1800s in a Pacific Island maybe!
“Out of fear a small country has been bullied into changing its mind. “There are many people who will regret this and regret it bitterly.
It is clear the politicians in Ireland acted in fear and self interest ORDERED to overturn the democratic vote of the people and make them vote again whilst scaring them into changing their vote with expensively funded activities and leaflets funded with stolen money!
“I fear that you’ll look back in Ireland on this day and you’ll realise that it marked the beginning of the end of your relatively brief period of independence as a nation.”
Of course there will be those who look back and realise this Dick Roche wishes to deny this - however it is clear that this vote has subjugated Ireland to a foreign power A FACT, this I believe will lead a huge majority to regret the yes vote in the fullness of time.
But Mr Roche hammered the comments saying the UKIP politician had no understanding of the Irish psyche.
Is his implication that the Greeks, Cypriots, Finns, Czechs and Poles who will now be amongst those voting in ALL Irish Law from now on DO have an understanding of Irish psyche - do they even care?
“We’re not a people that are easily bullied, and we’re not a people to be pushed around,” he said.
The FACTS would lead to a different conclusion!
“This is the Irish people making a firm and self-confident decision to vote in our interests.”
Is there ANY evidence of this? Is Roche's denial of democracy and misunderstanding of debate a recognition of 'self confidence' in Ireland? This bullying denial of freedom of speach all sounds very EU to me!
UKIP had urged a No vote in the referendum hoping to bring down the Lisbon Treaty and damage the EU project.
As of course is their right and their elected mandate - If you accept Roche's misrepresentation of The EFD he is even more wrong as UKIP are only present as a rejection of the corruption of the Westminster politicians and to represent leaving the EU wherever they can - they are dependent on this and pretence the would exist without this are childish.
But Mr Roche said UKIP’s intervention had helped the Yes campaign.
Well he would wouldn't he - agressive, abusive, dishonest and bullying in victory is merely a continuation of Dick Roche's normal behaviour it seems and clearly The EU and Irish politicians are scared of those telling the truth to those they have duped and bullied to get a yes vote!
He said: “It was hugely beneficial because people were asking: What in the name of God is UKIP doing in this country telling us what to do?”
Does this bullying fool really not understand EU politics? Farage and the 32 members of the EFD have 32 votes in the EU pretend parliament, votes Farage commands as leader of the EFD
Farage & The EFD were in Ireland trying to tell the people that IF they voted yes it would be The EFD, UKIP and even The BNP who voted in Irish Law - not the loud mouthed bufoon Roche!
No wonder Roche is having a hissy fit at the realisation of his future irrelevance!

#E042* - FEAR WAS THE KEY THAT UNLOCKED THE yes VOTE

The corruption of some Politicians

FEAR WAS THE KEY THAT UNLOCKED THE yes VOTE, SO WHY BE SURPRISED - IRELAND'S LEADERS ALWAYS BETRAY THEIR PEOPLES!!
Hi,
You may well find this opinion by Dr. Richard North of interest, informed and accurate as usual.
With the Irish referendum just gone, there is undoubtedly only one explanation for the sudden reversal of the vote: fear.
It was that on which the "yes" campaign capitalised. And it worked – it always does.
Such is the utility of fear that it has been the driving force in government, probably since the dawn of time. Sane, intelligent men, gripped by fear, will do – or allow in their name – things which in a rational state they would neither accept not permit. Not for nothing did Edmund Burke observe that: "No passion so effectually robs the mind of all its powers of acting and reasoning as fear."
So consistent and reliable is that observation that it becomes the driver in any number of issues, not least "climate change", where the warmists are now becoming brutally frank about their tactics.
Thus do we have prof Clive Hamilton, professor of public ethics at the Australian National University. He is claiming that the majority of the population is still in denial about the risks of climate change. Scientists, he says, now have a duty to inform the public about the risks of climate change so action is taken and people are ready to adapt their lifestyles.
"There is a view we should not scare people because it makes them go down their burrows and close the door but I think the situation is so serious that although people are afraid they are not fearful enough given the science," he adds. "Personally I cannot see any alternative to ramping up the fear factor."
Hamilton quite deliberately compares the situation to the psychology of the British and German populations before the Second World War and said the only way to make people change their behaviour was to adopt that strategy.
Of course, one of the "experts" of that period was a character called Hermann Goering, and one would expect Hamilton to be familiar with his pronouncements. One of them, in the context of going to war, was this:
Why, of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm
want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come
back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war
neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is
understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the
policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is
a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist
dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding
of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being
attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the
country to danger. It works the same in any country.
Take away the "war" aspect and this could so easily be converted into warmist theology. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to give up his SUV, his comfortable lifestyle, his holiday abroad – and pay more taxes – when the best he can get out of it is ... precisely nothing, except a poorer existence.
But it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along ... All you have to do is tell them they are being "attacked" by an invisible terror – carbon dioxide or, worse still, by "pollution", and denounce the peacemakers sceptics for lack of patriotism denying the science and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.
It was actually Herbert Hoover who put his finger on it. Every collectivist revolution rides in on a Trojan horse of 'emergency'," he wrote. "It was the tactic of Lenin, Hitler, and Mussolini. In the collectivist sweep over a dozen minor countries of Europe, it was the cry of men striving to get on horseback." "And," he told us, "'emergency' became the justification of the subsequent steps. This technique of creating emergency is the greatest achievement that demagoguery attains."
This is the credo of the "beneficial crisis", deployed equally by the warmists and the European Union, experts in demagoguery both - and you don't get more "collective". Said the president of the EU parliament, Jerzy Buzek, in response to the Irish vote: "Now we must start to work to overcome the difficulties. Our citizens are afraid of the energy issue, the unemployment rate, about immigration, demography and we can do that together, as it was before, also in the future, in solidarity."
"Our citizens are afraid ...". And Mother Europe will come to the aid of her children, having regaled them with stories of endless terrors.
There you have it. "The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary," said H L Mencken. But there is more.
Sceptics cannot be tolerated - everybody must buy into the fear. Robert Lindner had it:
"Authority has every reason to fear the sceptic, for authority can rarely
survive in the face of doubt." Thomas Jefferson added to it: "Fear can only
prevail when victims are ignorant of the facts."
General Douglas MacArthur, an unlikely source, then put it all together.
"The powers in charge keep us in a perpetual state of fear," he wrote. They
"keep us in a continuous stampede of patriotic fervor with the cry of grave
national emergency."
"Always," he added, "there has been some terrible
evil to gobble us up if we did not blindly rally behind it by furnishing the
exorbitant sums demanded. Yet, in retrospect, these disasters seem never to have
happened, seem never to have been quite real."
By then, of course, it is too late. The "powers in charge" have got what they wanted. Yesterday, the "colleagues" got their way. The "warmists" are getting their way. They have one tool in common - fear. But, as Roosevelt told us, "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself." But still the timorous wee beasties fall for it.
My thanks to Richard for this prescient and as ever well informed article.
So very accurate a description of the utterly corrupt and undemocratic yes vote the Irish were bullied into.
However it is not surprising - throughout history Ireland's politicians and land owners have betrayed the people in the past it was by raping their land to fund their 'Poppinjay' lifestyles in Versailles and St. James. Now it seems Brussels and Strasburg are the honey trap. Prepare once more to aid the honest decent betrayed peoples of Ireland - but expect to be blamed it is a part of the psychie!

Clean Politics up NOW & make Politicians electable!
The corruption of some Politicians

A Portent of The Damage Done By the bullying of Ireland when subjected to Fear by its own corrupt politicians!
Hi,
listening to broadcasts from across the EU, including Ireland and Britain, has been a frightenning portent of what is to come now the 'Comrads' have gained control of Ireland and can go ahead and impose The New Constitution aka Lisbon Constitutional Treaty.
Every single broadcast of news has announced the opinions and quotes of the politicians and the glee of the unelected snivil cervants like Barrosso, Mandelson and their ilk.
Since so very few people unfortunate enough to be in the EU have cast a democratic vote for its authorisation, so few have even had a vote - NO ONE has stated how the peoples of the various vassal regions of the EU feel.
Clearly no one cares what the people think, feel or believe which compounds the clarity of contempt of the EU for Ireland and its democratic vote NO to Lisbon which they were Ordered to run again.
Even the fake politicians have not mentioned the people or the wishes of the masses.
The self styled political elite care not a damn for the peoples.
This MAY lead to the collapse of the EU in its increased control which is repugnant to so many and such a failure for yet more as Ireland will find as their yes Campaign leaders fail to pick up the economy, provide more jobs or wave the magic wand they promised to buy a yes vote.
The tragedy is that the deeper and wider the bondage the greater the harm done and the more uncomfortable even terrifying will be the anarchic collapse which comes ever closer.
GOOD LUCK!

Europe is holding its breath after polls closed in Ireland's controversial Lisbon Treaty referendum re-run, we are told by the Press Association.
Casting his ballot in his home county of Offaly in the Midlands, Taoiseach Brian Cowen was cautiously optimistic of a pro-Lisbon Treaty win.
"The people's decision is sovereign and of course that will be the case, but I'm hopeful that in the context of today we'll have a good outcome," he said.
This level of utter hypocracy beggars belief!
This is the clown who did EXACTLY what he was ORDERED to do by his masters in Brussels and totally betrayed the Irish people and Irish Democracy - what was left of it!

Clean Politics up NOW & make Politicians electable!

LISBON 2008 - Richard NORTH's ROLLING BLOG as THE RESULTS CAME IN!!
Dublin scores 7-5 against. Outside Dublin, only four constituencies declare for the treaty - with one dead heat. Best result: Donegal NE: 64.7 "no" - 35.5 percent "yes".
Corbett speaks and so does Barroso (see bottom of this post). Despite that, there is no way that the "colleagues" can get round this. Spin they might, but the fact is that, in the ONLY referendum on the treaty, the voters said Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!
OPENING A NEW FRONT: As this is not the end, the beginning of the end or the end of the beginning, a new front has been opened in the war. In a day or so there will be more about the BrugesGroupBlog and the thinking behind it.
The key news as of last night was that the turnout was low. That is what the BBC (and others) were saying. RTE estimated 40 percent (according to agency reports - the BBC said 45). How wrong they were!
In the 2001 Nice treaty vote, a low turnout of 34 percent delivered a victory to the "no" campaign - 54 to 46 percent against the treaty. When the Irish voted again the following year, a turnout of nearly 50 percent delivered 63 percent of the vote to the "yes" camp, with 37 percent for the "noes". Thus does the legend prevail that a low turnout favours the "noes".
The polling stations closed a 10 pm and counting began at 9 am this morning. There was no exit poll. Updates begin here, giving a running commentary on a remarkable day.
UPDATE: French prime minister Francois Fillon is saying that an Irish rejection of the treaty would mean the end. "If the Irish people decide to reject the treaty of Lisbon, naturally, there will be no treaty of Lisbon," he is reported as saying in an interview on French television.
UPDATE: Ireland's major gambling company, Paddy Power PLC, has paid out more than €180,000 in winning bets to people who wagered on a "yes" victory. Paddy Power spokeswoman Sharon McHugh said the company decided a "yes" appeared the likely outcome - despite the low turnout and the fact not a single ballot had been counted - because gamblers inundated their Irish Web site with big bets for a treaty triumph in the hours before polling closed. "All the betting on Thursday night suggests a 'Yes' vote is in the bag, but we could be left with egg on our faces if we've called it wrong," she said.
UPDATE: Cowen and his wife cast their ballots in Mucklagh national school near Tullamore in the Irish midlands yesterday morning. "A referendum by definition, it's about a change to the constitution and our citizens should take that seriously," he told reporters. And the treaty doesn't change ours?
UPDATE: We have received a letter from Anthony Coughlan of the National Platform EU Research and Information Centre, the leading eurosceptic organization in Ireland for many years, with a copy of his media statement. He is, I am sorry to say, not very optimistic about the outcome. Among other things, his media statement says:
Regrettably, this constitutional revolution which Lisbon would bring about in the EU itself, its Member States and in the civic status of four million Irish and nearly 500 million Europeans has scarcely been referred to in Ireland's referendum debate.
The main reason for this is the failure of the statutory Referendum Commission to carry out its function of explaining the "subject matter of the proposal" in the Constitutional Amendment, "and its text", which is what people have been voting on today.
The 1998 Referendum Act lays down that this is the prime task of the Referendum Commission. Yet the Commission has done absolutely nothing to explain to Irish voters how "the European Union established by virtue of the Lisbon Treaty" - which the Constitutional Amendment would allow the State to be a member of, and which is referred to in the first sentence of the Amendment - would differ from the present EU, which was established by the 1993 Maastricht Treaty.
The Referendum Commission has made no attempt to explain the implications for Irish citizens of being endowed with a citizenship of this post-Lisbon Union which is "additional to" their national citizenship, despite its obvious constitutional importance; for one can only be a citizen of a State and all States must have citizens.
Having failed to carry out its essential duty as laid down in the Referendum Act, the Referendum Commission through its chairman, Mr Justice Iarfhlaith O'Neill, engaged instead in partisan "clarifications" of disputed matters which were wholly geared to benefiting one side. The Commission and its Chairman have behaved absolutely disgracefully.
We have no doubt that Dr Coughlan's description of the Referendum Commission's behaviour is accurate. We can but hope that his gloomy prediction is less so.
UPDATE: Another message from Dr Coughlan is considerably less pessimistic. He now thinks that, based on the early "tallies" there is a considerable chance that the no side will win. Dr Coughlan is a little on the pessimistic side almost as a matter of principle so this is very hopeful, indeed.
UPDATE: Reuters is reporting that early counting in Dublin is giving the "no" camp a clear lead. Political party monitors known as "tallymen" who watch the count are saying that five constituencies showed the "no" camp ahead, with three evenly divided and one for the "yes" mob. Dublin accounts for about a quarter of the country's electorate and was widely expected to be more supportive of the treaty.
Correspondents for public service broadcaster RTE in other parts of the country also said early counting showed "no" in the lead.
UPDATE: The Irish Times confirms the "no" trend. In Mayo, the vote appeared to be 60-40 per cent in favour of the "no" camp with the majority of boxes counted. There was a 52 percent turnout. Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny and the party's MEP Jim Higgins are conceding that the "no" campaign have won in Mayo.
In the Galway West constituency, after the counting of 60 boxes, it is running 54 - 45 percent in favour of "no". Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs Éamon Ó CuÃv is conceding defeat for the treaty in the constituency.
In Galway East constituency, the trend also appears to be against the treaty by a narrow margin with most of the 149 boxes opened. In Tuam, the heartland of Libertas founder Declan Ganley, the "no" votes were two to one ahead.
In Dublin South-West, there is a report 60 - 40 percent split in favour of the "no" side. This 60:40 tally is repeated in Dublin North-West, Dublin Central, and Dublin North-East. Elsewhere in the country, tallies from Limerick West indicate a 59 percent "no" vote to 41 for the "yes" campaign. Tipperary South tallies show 50.3 percent "yes and 49.7 percent "no" vote, while Tipperary North tallies indicate a 50:50 split.
Initial tally figures from Sligo-Leitrim suggest a 66 percent "no" vote, Roscommon-South Leitrim indicates a 55 percent "no", while Donegal South-West (55 percent "no") and Donegal North-East (63 percent "no") are also showing an anti-Lisbon trend.
In Louth, the tally split was reported to be a 57 - 43 percent in favour of "no". In Meath West and East, the split shows a 60-40 percentage advantage to the "no" side. In Cork, the trend also appears to be in favour of the "no" vote. Both Kildare constituencies (Charlie McCreevy country) appear to be bucking the trend, with early tallies indicating a 57 - 43 percent vote for the "yes" campaign.
The tallies indicate there has been a strong "no" showing in rural areas and in working-class urban areas, while there appears to be less support for the treaty in middle-class urban areas than had been expected.
UPDATE: David Sharrock, Ireland Correspondent of The Times (London) is also reporting a clear "no" vote. He says: "In Dublin Central, that's Bertie Ahern's constituency, it's going 58 percent "no" against 42 percent for the treaty. Sharrock adds: "I've just been speaking to Garret FitzGerald, a former Taoiseach and very experienced tallyman. He's a fantastic number cruncher and he says that it looks like the "no" vote has won with 55 percent."
UPDATE: Reuters is reporting that France's secretary of state for European affairs, Jean-Pierre Jouyet, is saying that an Irish "no" should not stop other member states ratifying the treaty. "The most important thing is that ratification should continue in other countries and I have good reasons to think that the process of ratification will continue," he told LCI television. "We would have to see with the Irish at the end of the ratification process how we could make it work and what legal arrangement we could come to."
So, the mice are gnawing away at it already. We told you this would happen!
UPDATE: The Irish Times (desperately pro-EU) is struggling to put a brave face on it, reporting: "Dublin Yes vote rallies after early No gains".
This amounts to a strong "yes" vote in County Dublin but a "no" victory in city constituencies and around the rest of the country. Some "rally" - the combined vote in Dublin city and county appears to leaning towards a "no". However, according to tallies, Dun Laoghaire is two to one in favour of the treaty, as is Dublin South with Dublin South East 60 - 40 in favour. Dublin North East, North West and South Central are being called as two to one against the treaty.
Dublin Central is 57 - 43 percent against. Dublin West is 55 percent "no" and 45 percent "yes". Dublin South West is thought to be heading towards a similar margin against, while there are no tallies for Dublin North.
UPDATE: Bookmaker Paddypower has admitted it made a mistake, after paying out more than €80,000 in bets on a "yes" vote. As polls closed at last night, the bookmaker made a decision to pay out punters who had backed a Yes vote after unofficial exit polls indicated a late surge in support for the treaty. The blunder means the bookmaker will be forced to pay out over €180,000 in referendum bets.
In a statement, Paddy Power said: "Last night, there were rumours of an exit poll showing the 'yes' side in the lead and all the late betting suggested a swing in support for the treaty." "It's an unlucky Friday 13th for Paddy Power but a lucky one for our punters," it added.
UPDATE: David Heathcoat-Amory says on BBC Radio 4 that the Conservatives should press for the UK ratification to be abandoned. Some chance!
UPDATE: Ahern says: "We're in uncharted waters." You bet!
UPDATE: The founder of Libertas, Declan Ganley, says: "The Irish people have rejected the Lisbon Treaty. "it is a great day for Irish democracy ... This is democracy in action ... and Europe needs to listen to the voice of the people." Ganley adds that Brian Cowen, "has a mandate to go back to Europe and do the best job possible".
Socialist Party leader Joe Higgins has said the likely "no" vote is a "huge rebuff to the political establishment" but a vindication of the rights of "tens of millions of workers" in the European Union. He believes the "no" side "won the argument", despite the fact that the main political parties and "big business" were in favour of the treaty.
UPDATE: Poland's President Lech Kaczynski's office says he will still sign the treaty. "The president has already said the issue of ratification is a done deal," Mariusz Handzlik, head of the foreign affairs department in the president's office, told Reuters.
UPDATE: Andrew Duff, Lib-Dim leader says, "we cannot accept this result". Corbett on his blog says, "there are 26 other member states whose opinion matters too. It is inconceivable that all of the others will simply say 'too bad - one country has said no to the package as it stands, so let's forget reform and stick with the current system for evermore."
UPDATE: Deutsche Welle reports: "A feeling of gloom and uncertainty fell on Brussels on Friday after Ireland's justice minister said it appeared that the 'no' camp had pulled ahead in the referendum on the European Union's new reform treaty." The eurosceptics, meanwhile, have decamped to Kitty O'Shea's - yards from the commission building - drinking pints of Guiness while they hold an impromptu press conference.
UPDATE: EU commission President Jose Manuel Barroso is still calling on other members states to ratify the treaty. "I believe the treaty is alive and we should now try to find a solution," he says.
UPDATE: Minister for Justice Brian Lenihan says Ireland has lost influence in Europe. He was "very, very disappointed" with the outcome, adding: "I think it is a very sad day for this country and for Europe as well." It was a "serious matter for Ireland," he said, then declaring:"We have to accept the decision of the people… and that's democracy and I accept that."
UPDATE: "By all rights, it [the treaty] should be declared dead," says David Cameron. Gordon Brown is silent. Nigel Farage declares that it [the result] sends a clear message that the European leaders are not listening.
Now the fun begins! An analytical post will follow.

#E038* - Hague, The Vatican & North see the danger in yes!
Clean Politics up NOW & make Politicians electable!
The corruption of some Politicians
is what gives the remaining 10%
a bad name!
William HAGUE, The VATICAN & Dr. Richard NORTH all foresee the danger in a yes vote!!!
Dr. Richard North as an informed Military and Political commentator picks up on the catastophy of a yes vote where The Times seemingly leaves off:
~~~~~~~~~
Actually, the voting on the outlying islands started two days ago. And, according to The Times, the very first vote was cast in Barry Edgar Pilcher's living room in Raven Cottage on Inishfree - it went to the "no" campaign.
Mr Pilcher, 66, a London-born artist and musician, serenaded locals on his saxophone as they voted. "I voted 'no' because I think we shouldn't give our power away," Mr Pilcher said. Turnout was high, with five of Inishfree's seven eligible voters casting a ballot. Patsy Dan Rodgers, the "king" of neighbouring Tory Island, said most of the 150 islanders would vote "no" – rather appropriate for the "Tories".
With the vote expected to favour the "yes" camp, however, God – or, at least, the Vatican, which is not quite the same thing – has made an unexpected intervention, warning that the European Union threatens Ireland's "identity, traditions and history".
This is Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican secretary of state, who spoke during the Pope's visit to the Czech Republic, noting that: "Individual European countries have their own identity. The EU prescribes its laws or views to them and they do not have to fit with their traditions and history. Some countries are logically resisting this – for example, Ireland."
Anodyne though this might be, it has been seized upon by the "no" camp in what is regarded as an increasingly acrimonious campaign, with prime minister Brian Cowen still lying through his teeth, claiming that he had secured "legal guarantees" from the EU on Irish concerns about the treaty.
Whatever the "yessies" might say about their level of support, Dr John O'Brennan, European politics lecturer at NUI Maynooth, is warning that the level of anger among Irish voters towards an unpopular government should not be under-estimated.
"If you talk to people all around the country," he says, "a level of anger is very, very high. Are people rational enough to put that aside and think of the interests of the country in the longer term? I'm not so sure." That is obviously from a Europhile and he may not have picked up another factor – more than a few Irish are a tad annoyed with being made to vote again, their first vote having been ignored by their political classes.
Results are not due until Saturday, and it will be mid-morning before we get an idea of which way the sentiment is going, but there is still some hope that the "piss off" factor will prevail and the Irish will have the sense to give the "colleagues" in Brussels a bloody nose.
#E037* - CLINTON CLAIMS HIS IRISH ROOTS
Clean Politics up NOW & make Politicians electable!
is what gives the remaining 10%
a bad name!
Bill CLINTON CLAIMS HIS IRISH ROOTS & COULD IT BE WINSTON DEFENDING IRELAND WITH A NO VOTE??
Irish prepare to vote on Lisbon treaty
The first vote in Ireland’s referendum on the Lisbon treaty was cast yesterday in Barry Edgar Pilcher’s living room in Raven Cottage on Inishfree — and it went to the “no” camp.
Residents of the island, a 15-minute trip by fishing boat from the northwestern coast in Donegal, were allowed to get the EU referendum under way two days before the rest of the country in case their tiny communities were cut off by bad weather on polling day.
Mr Pilcher, 66, a London-born artist and musician, serenaded locals on his saxophone as they voted. “I voted ‘no’ because I think we shouldn’t give our power away,” Mr Pilcher said. Turnout was high, with five of Inishfree’s seven eligible voters casting a ballot. Patsy Dan Rodgers, the “king” of neighbouring Tory Island, said most of the 150 islanders would vote “no”.
At the end of three weeks of often acrimonious campaigning, a broadcast moratorium came into effect at midnight forbidding further discussion of the pros and cons of the repackaged European constitution before the polling stations close tomorrow evening.
Voters are going to the polls in gloomy mood. Ireland became the first eurozone country to fall into recession a year ago; domestic scandals over state profligacy and accusations of incompetence have dogged the Government and, yesterday, thousands marched through Dublin to protest against cuts recommended by a government-appointed auditor.
Brian Cowen, the Taoiseach, made his final pitch to voters yesterday. He tried to explain why it was essential for Ireland to overturn the “no” that it recorded in a referendum in June last year but, according to the leader of the opposition Labour Party, Eamon Gilmore, many undecided voters were veering towards rejecting the treaty.
Last time the “no” vote prevailed with 53.4 per cent, a result that stunned Europe and plunged the European Union’s expansion project into crisis. Recent opinion polls show a slow growth in the “no” vote — but put the “yes” camp still comfortably ahead with 55 per cent.
All through the campaign, the Irish have had to listen to two competing messages of doom as to the effect of the Lisbon treaty, which aims to streamline decision-making in the expanded 27-member Union. Today is their last chance to digest the two versions before making a final choice.
The embattled Mr Cowen, whose opinion poll rating is the lowest ever recorded for an Irish leader, warned that a second rejection would damage efforts to rebuild Ireland’s collapsed economy. Calling the second referendum “one of the most important decisions in our recent history”, he said voters faced a clear choice in which the stakes could not be higher. “Will we move forward together with Europe or will we take an uncharted and more uncertain road?” he asked.
“Only with a ‘yes’ will we ensure investor confidence in Ireland, protect our influence in vital economic decisions and reform Europe so that it is more dynamic and effective.
“I understand that this is a time when many people are worried and are feeling the impact of the crisis. To them I say: the future is in your hands.
“By voting ‘yes’ you will be helping Ireland achieve economic recovery. By voting ‘yes’ you will be sending a powerful signal to job creators and investors that our country is and will remain at the heart of Europe.” In response to newspaper cartoonists who have been lampooning the exercise by portraying voters preparing for next year’s vote on the treaty, he said: “There won’t be a Lisbon Three.”
Mr Cowen’s appeal was rejected by Declan Ganley, of the anti-Lisbon group Libertas. “The Irish people can choose between two visions of economic recovery,” Mr Ganley said. “On the one hand, we can choose to be scared and vote out of fear. That is what our Government wants. They have spent millions of our own money telling us to be scared. “On the other hand, we can reject our failed political establishment, reject the failed policies of the past that Lisbon enshrines, and set ourselves on the path to growth by removing the real roadblock to recovery: Brian Cowen.
“The only job Lisbon will save is Brian Cowen’s. There is nothing in this treaty which aids recovery. There is nothing that creates jobs. In fact, by handing away more and more power to an establishment that doesn’t want to listen, and won’t have to listen after Lisbon, we would be making a mistake that we would regret for generations.”
Mr Cowen bowed to pressure from President Sarkozy to rerun the referendum after securing guarantees on key issues of Irish concern.
The Republic — which accounts for 1 per cent of the Union’s 500 million population — is the only country constitutionally bound to hold a referendum, because it modifies the constitution. A total of 24 member states have ratified the treaty, with Poland and the Czech Republic the only other countries yet to do so. If Ireland does record a “yes” when all the votes have been counted by Saturday afternoon there will be rapid efforts in Brussels to complete the treaty’s ratification — and introduce new features such as a European president.
I have a greater belief in the integrity of the Irish than even many of them have it seems and clearly I value their freedom more highly than their corrupt politicians and their cronies!
Sadly from midnight tomorrow there is the danger that The Irish Free State will no longer be Free!
Hi,
Read the articles on this blog and see the arguments on www.Politics.ie where you will notice the entire yes campaign is funded with money stolen from the public purse to try to buy the result the EU has Ordered them to get.
You will notice that despite aid, support, cash and staff from the EU propaganda machine and having stolen between 10 & 20 times as much money as the NO Campaign has received by legitimate donation from a broad sector of people - Bankers, Businessmen, Individuals & Organisations the yes campaign is so bereft of sound reason to vote for the new constitution in any guise that they have been reduced to abuse, ad hominem attacks and smear tactics.
I can see no excuse for a patriotic Irish Man or Woman to vote for such people using such typical EU tactics, that we have all seen time and again when the EU or its praise singers think their place at the trough for self enrichment is challenged!
#E035* - Jens-Peter Bonde from Prof. Anthony Coughlan
Clean Politics up NOW & make Politicians electable!
The corruption of some Politicians
is what gives the remaining 10%
a bad name!
Jens-Peter Bonde's Summary from Prof. Anthony Coughlan!!
From: John Anthony Coughlan
Date: 27 September 2009
Subject: European Commission interferes unlawfully in Ireland's Lisbon referendum re-run ... Article by Jens-Peter Bonde on the Commission's 16-Page Supplement in today's Irish Sunday papers.
Dublin
Sunday 26 September 2009
There has been massive interference by the European Commission in Ireland's Lisbon referendum re-run over the past month, as never happened before in the country's EU referendums. The re-run referendum takes place on Friday next.
This culminated in a 16-page propaganda Supplement on the EU being inserted in every Irish Sunday newspaper today. This must have cost several million euros - using European and Irish taxpayers' money to influence Irish voters to ratify the Lisbon Treaty and in the process expand the power and functions of the Brussels Commission itself.
The European Commission is acting unlawfully under European law, as the Commission has no function whatever in relation to the ratification of new Treaties. These are exclusively a matter for the EU Member States, which are called upon to ratify new Treaties "in accordance with their own constitutional procedures". The EU Commission's functions relate only to Treaties that have been already ratified.
Mr Jens-Peter Bonde, former Danish MEP and editor of "The Lisbon Treaty: The Readable Version", has written the article below analysing the content of the European Commission's 16-page suppelment inserted in today's Irish Sunday newspapers. You may find it of interest.
The European Commission's action is almost certainly unlawful also under Irish law, as some of the money used to finance this newspaper Supplement will have come from Irish taxpayers on both sides in the referendum. The Irish Supreme Court's decided in the 1995 McKenna case that it was unlawful to use taxpayers' money to further one side in a referendum.
Below is a criticism by Jens-Peter Bonde of some key points in the European Commission's propaganda Supplement. Mr Bonde is an acknowledged authority on the EU Treaties and was a member of the Convention which drew up the original EU Constitution which was rejected by the French and Dutch in referendums in 2005 and which is now embodied in the Lisbon Treaty.
He is not interested in making partisan points about the Treaty, but in drawing attention to the legal facts of what is in it.
______
The European Commission acts illegally in Ireland
By Jens-Peter Bonde
Member of the European Parliament 1979-2008 and member of the two Constitutional conventions, editor of "The Lisbon Treaty: The Readable Version" and the internet lexicon: euabc.com
On Sunday 27 September the European Commission placed a 16-page propaganda supplement in all Irish newspapers as a paid insert.
This is an unlawful use of European taxpayer`s money, since the European Commission has no competence whatever in the ratification of treaties.
The Commission is positively misleading on the single topic it should know best about, the appointment of the Commission itself.
"Contrary to the existing (Nice) Treaty, the Commission will continue to be formed of one Commisisoner from every Member State", the first page of the Introduction states.
On the contrary, the Nice Treaty provides in Art. 213.1 TEC: "The Commission must include at least one national of each of the Member States". This is the law today. The European Commission`s statement about the Nice Treaty is simply false.
The aim of a smaller Commission can be found in the Protocol on Enlargement. This proposes a reduvtion in the Commission when the EU reaches 27 member states. This is only a proposal. It is still not the law.
The Protocol states in Art. 4.2.1: "The number of Members of the Commission shall be set by the Council, acting unanimously".
There was an attempt to achieve the aim of a smaller Commission by the draft Constitution reducing the number of Commissioners to 2/3 of the member states. This attempt failed when the Constitution was rejected by 55% of French and 62% of Dutch voters.
The attempt was then repeated in the Lisbon Treaty. It failed in the first Irish referendum when 53 % of the Irish voters rejected it on 12 June 2008.
Therefore, Ireland and everyone else can keep their Commissioner until the Irish and all other Governments vote for a reduction in the Commission. This is the simple fact in the existing Treaty.
The Lisbon Treaty reduces the Commission to 2/3 of the number of member states on a rotation basis. That will become the law after a Yes vote.
Then there is a political promise from 27 Prime Ministers to keep one commissioner for each state. This promise binds the current Prime Ministers politically, but not necesarrily their successors.
This compromise may also be altered if there are further enlargements, as suggested by the Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt on 6 September in the Irish Times.
"One Commissioner for everyone" is not in the Treaty which Irish voters are voting on. I guess it may come about when all member states will formally agree on a later amendment. But it is not part of the Lisbon Treaty, as the Irish voters are being told by the European Commission.
I expect all member states to agree to have one Commissioner for each member state in the next Commission - but not for ever.
The political reality is that the next Commission will have 26 members PLUS an EU foreign minister who will either be a kind of observer if there is a No vote or a full Commission Vice-President if it is a Yes.
The Swedish Prime Minister and President of the European Council told the Irish Times that this 26+1 formula had already been agreed informally among diplomats.
All member states will therefore be represented in the next Commission, or else one of them will have the more attractive job of foreign minister whether the Irish vote Yes or No.
There is legal certainty about having an Irish Commissioner with a No vote. There is uncertainty with a Yes - not now but after further EU enlargement. This is a fact. The Commission`s propaganda supplement is fiction.
It is also worth noting that the non-elected Commission finds no space in its 16 pages to explain how it will increase its powers and its monopoly of initiating EU laws in a wide range of new areas.
It does not explain how the new Art. 290 TFEU gives new implementing powers to itself.
It does not explain how Art. 217.7 TFEU may permit the Commission to change international agreements without the approval of the elected members of any parliament.
It does not mention the most important change regarding the Commission, its own mode of appointment. Under Nice each member state Government "proposes" its "own" Commissioner. Under Lisbon they can only put forward "suggestions".
The decision on who will come from each country will lie with the Commission President and 20 of 27 Prime Ministers representing 65 % of the EU`s population.
This radical and important change will make the Commission even less accountable to voters than it is today. It replaces the present bottom-up procedure by a top-down one post-Lisbon.
There is not a word about this in the Commission`s supplement.
The content is handpicked for Irish voters. The new clause on "distortion of competition" on taxes in Art. 113 TFEU and the new Art. 311 TFEU providing for new taxes for the EU itself are disguised by the sentence: "...it protects the rights of each Member State, especially in sensitive areas such as taxation and defence".
The supplement entirely ignores the new "solidarity" clause on mutual defence in Art. 42.7 TEU and the clause requiring states "progressively to improve their military capabilities" in Art. 42.3 TEU.
There is not a word on the most important change in the Treaty, the shift of voting power from small to big member states.
Under Lisbon, the six largest member states will increase their share of the vote in the Council from 49% today to over 70%. The 21 smallest countries will reduce their combined share from 51% to less than 30%.
Ireland will halve its vote from 2.0% today to 0.9%. This is being kept secret from Irish voters in all public information being issued to them - paid for by their own taxpayer`s money - before their Lisbon referendum re-run on this Friday, 2 October 2009.
The Lisbon Treaty can be downloaded for free at euABC.com
I do hope this helps YOU in a Patriotic defence of Ireland's freedom and future liberty - free from the added shackles of The Lisbon Constitution, which the Irish Government in Brussels has spent 8 years failing to force upon the citizenry!
What is the exit and survival plan for Ireland & the United Kingdoms to maximise on the many benefits of leaving The EU. It is the DUTY of our Politicians and Snivil Cervants to ensure the continuity, liberty and right to self determination of our peoples they have a DUTY to protect against crime and secure both our food and our borders.
NONE of these DUTIES has a single Irish or British politician upheld for 40 years. They have drawn their incomes fraudulently and dishonesty.
Politicians are failing to tell the truth, but so are almost all wanabe Politicians, the MSM and Snivil Cervants.
The fact is that even if EVERY Irish & British MEP wanted change in The EU it would achieve NOTHING.
Every single British & Irish Politician, of EVERY Party, elected since before we joined the EUropean Common Market, has promised to change The EU's CAP & CFP - In 40 Years they have achieved absolutely NOTHING!
To try to put a value on OUR Freedom is as futile as floccipaucinihilipilification and as odious as the metissage of our societies, as we rummage in the ashes of our ancestors dreams, sacrifices and achievements, the flotsam of our hopes and the jetsam of our lives, consider the Country and Anglosphere which we leave our children and the future, with shame!
The Truth About The Irish Economy
A No vote on the Lisbon Treaty will not harm the Republic..
By DEREK SCOTT
The Mad Hatter told Alice that "words mean what you want them to mean." He would have been at home in the European Union, where "no" means "yes" and political propaganda is passed off as information. If Ireland votes No to the Lisbon Treaty, the EU will continue and Ireland will be part of it, but if they vote Yes the Irish will find they have even less leverage in Europe than today.
In the course of the second referendum campaign in Ireland some extraordinary claims have been made about the economic consequences of voting No: it would frighten investors, cost jobs and condemn Ireland to economic isolation; while a Yes vote, to quote the Taoiseach, is the "critical first step on the path to recovery."
This is but part of a wider piece of propaganda, namely that the EU is responsible for Ireland's economic resurgence and a No vote will put this at risk. Of course Ireland has benefited from fiscal transfers from Brussels, or more accurately from taxpayers in other member states, but for many years this did not prevent Ireland's economy performing badly: slow economic growth, especially given its relative opportunity to catch up; high inflation, large budget deficits and high unemployment.
Ireland's more recent economic success is best explained by other factors and in fact its current problems and difficulty in remedying them have been compounded by membership in the EU, or at least its monetary arrangements. This fact is at odds with the suffocating consensus that dominates much establishment thinking, whether in Brussels, Dublin or even the International Monetary Fund, which continues to peddle the merits of exchange rate stability.
However, it was the large devaluation within the Exchange Rate Mechanism in August 1986 that made it possible for the Irish government to begin the process of fiscal consolidation and restoring the country's international credit standing (in 1985 Ireland was paying spreads as high as Mexico's). That Irish devaluation was followed by a domestic boom in Britain, which was then by far Ireland's biggest trading partner. Later, Irish growth suffered a setback as a result of Britain's recession—created by the exchange rate mechanism—at the beginning of the 1990s. Sterling's depreciation after September 1992 led to intolerable strains for Ireland. Reluctantly, the government did the rational thing in January 1993 and devalued massively for such an open economy. That devaluation, followed by the widening of the exchange-rate-mechanism bands in August 1993, in effect gave the Irish authorities monetary policy independence for the first time in the country's history.
This was accompanied by a whole range of market-oriented policies and Ireland's economic performance was spectacular: strong GDP and employment growth, low inflation and large budget surpluses, underpinned by the repatriation of the Irish diaspora and huge capital inflows attracted by high anticipated rates of return. Toward the end of the decade, however, problems built up because entry into the Economic and Monetary Union meant that interest rates were kept lower than if they had been set by Ireland's central bank: a spectacular boom became a spectacular bust.
Of course countries like the U.K. have their own economic difficulties, for a variety of reasons. But if London takes the right measures it can begin to put things right because monetary policy is in the hands of the Bank of England
As a result of the boom, Ireland's competitiveness has deteriorated by about 15% against its trading partners in the EU since the early 1990s. To remedy this, one way or another, the real exchange rate has to fall. Nominal depreciation is not possible, so Ireland has had to deflate and hard. The process has only just begun, but Ireland is running merely to stand still. Unless the euro depreciates by a large amount against the pound and dollar, real wages will be squeezed, output will fall further and the public finances and debt ratios will explode even more.
Ireland, like others within the economic and monetary union, has avoided a currency crisis that might have arisen had it not adopted the euro, but the so called "zone of stability" is not quite as benign as it sounds. The abandonment of individual currencies simply transfers the problem elsewhere—if a patient is sick, throwing the thermometer away doesn't constitute a cure.
Those who put Ireland's recent success down to the EU and the monetary union are wrong—they are the same people who say Ireland must vote Yes to Lisbon. Ireland has made its choice on the euro (though people were not given a vote on the decision) and all it can do is try to minimize the impediments this imposes on its room for maneuver. Ireland is in a less dire position than some other countries in monetary union, such as Spain, because it is a more open and flexible economy, meaning a relative improvement in competitiveness will have a larger impact on growth. It would be mad to erode these advantages. In the short term, the Lisbon Treaty may have little direct impact on the economy of Ireland one way or another, but over time it consolidates an economic and social model at odds with the factors that nursed the Celtic Tiger.
Leonard Shapiro wrote of Soviet Russia that "the true object of propaganda is neither to convince nor even to persuade, but to produce a uniform pattern of public utterance in which the first trace of unorthodox thought reveals itself as a jarring dissonance." Within the EU nomenklatura, dissonant voices are not tolerated. But Ireland should have the confidence to challenge the prevailing consensus that a No vote would be bad for the economy, because it's bunk.
Mr. Scott was economic adviser to U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair and is currently advisory board member of Vestra Wealth LLP in London.
